This might be common knowledge already, but I'm trying to give something back after leeching information and ideas from here.

After following the excellent guide doing Sskai and farm-code kicking in on me, I got bored and changed areas to find something else to hunt. Since my Necro needs a new weapon and the Stonereaper sounds pretty nice I decided to go and look for Craw.

I found him quicky, he's laughable easy.. and he dropped me the weapon on the first kill.

Since he's no warrior, I'm not using swords & ripostes, but an axe, collectors shield with +health/-2 when hexed and the following skills:

Executioners Strike
Disrupting Chop
Flurry
Endure Pain
Sprint
Healing Sig
Dolyak Sig
Grenths Balance {e}

Attributes:

Strength: 11
Axe Mastery: 10
Tactics: 15

Not perfect prolly, but it works nicely.

Where to find him:

Start out in Altrum Ruins, take the exit to Arborstone. Go through the gate and turn left following up the path. You'll run into a group of wardens (1 on the map) and traps that'll cripple you. Just keep going until you're through all traps, slap on dolyak and wait until crippling is gone (heal inbetween if you have to). Once crippling and dolyak has worn out, Sprint away until you lose aggro.

When you lost aggro, head for Craw Stonereap (2 on the map). You won't need to use Dolyak here, just whack away at him and let your HP drop below 100. Once below 100, hit Grenths Balance. Repeat this 2-3 times and he'll be dead. He's using Defile Flesh (I think) where he'll Sacrifice 20% of his Max Health - he'll kill himself usually.

Use disrupting chop to interrupt his Lingering Curse if you can time it right.

Made a quick video of the run, altho it wasn't a prefect run (you'll see why, I almost died at the end) you'll get how it's done.

Yeah, I've gotten quite a few of those staff's, very nice I might add. Here's a challenge for ya, solo the ele boss right after him

It's do able with a W but with a different build. Btw, I think cold damage works well against the stone bosses.

nice build... i took out disrupt chop for distracting blow, its faster than chop imo

Been trying with a W/Me, with elemental resistance, but so far no luck. His Stone-Daggers eat me alive most of the time, and despite using Dolyak he's using one skill that interrupts me and I'm not able to heal myself in time.

Not giving up yet, tho. Still have a few ideas I want to try to take him down, but so far he's been frustrating. The annoying part is getting past Stonereaper, usually takes a few back and forths to lose aggro.

I tried this with a mate, he killed the Stonereaper with Grenths Balance, and then we've tried to kill the ele boss together, I have tried a few builds, elemental resistance, Mantra of Earth and Backfire...... no chance even

like Hysteria mentioned, using cold dmg does do more dmg than other types

Gj marfarn. I do it easlily with an ele secondary and use armor of earth along with dolyak and 100 al armor. Just basically a beefed up tank build. With dolyak gale isn't a problem and keep enchant up. I also use a health +45, -2 dmg w/enchanted shield. Armor of earth isnt used on the necro boss and he'll just strip it anyway. I've also killed the ranger boss in there with this build but he's a bit tricky with the patrols. For damage I just go with straight up sword dmg, Tiger Stance, Galrath, Silverwing, Dragon Slash and take your pick for the last one.

to clear things up:

the ele boss picture is just in here, because of the post by Hysteria - how I killed the ele boss is in this thread (Warrior/Mesmer, also w/ video).

I'm actually not quite happy with the Mesmer-Way of killing the Ele Boss, I'll give the Armor of Earth/Dolyak combo a whirl as soon as I can.

the necro-staff is directly from Craw Stonereap, so no, not an ele boss dropping a necro staff.

After that, I guess I'll have to continue the primary quest in cantha to find more bosses/challenges. I'm mainly doing it for the fun of it, not for the drops/greens (besides Sskai, where I wanted the sword

)

I'm also trying to find a way to kill both Stonereap and Stonewrath with one build, but they seem to be pretty incompatible at the moment.

And Amsterdam, I'm always looking for challenges, so if you know of one, let me know and we might be able to figure something out

All you have to do is get him stuck behind the wall then cast on him with Spiteful Spirit and Price of Failure. Well here's a Ranger/Mesmer build that can solo these guys...

Equipment:
Cheapo 15e green staff. I bought a Millius' Pillar for 1k at ToPK.
Druid's Armor (32e)

Every skill is used on the bar. It's not super fast, but I find it more efficient than my iNecro with SS/IP.

For the first mob:
1. Lay 2 barbed traps under the first arch. Further is bettter.
2. Pull the mob. The Wardens of the Trunk will come down to you.
3. If all goes well then they will hit the barbed traps and be crippled. Because they are so far away you will get a good head start on them.
4. Immediately go to dodge and run up through the other wardens.
5. If you can stay near either wall and you may avoid a trap.
6. Go into whirling as dodge wears off.
7. Keep running until you break aggro. When Dodge recharges use it immediately. You may have to run a long way down the hallway.
8. Now heal up and go back for Craw.

For Craw:
Avoid frontal assault if possible. It's not suicide, but strafing is pain. His wand attacks do 80dmg to my ranger in druids armor. Try and get him within range for Empathy & Backfire, but behind an obstacle. That way he can't wand you to death.
1. Backfire first!
2. Empathy
3. Rinse and repeat.
4. Wait until your health is <50%. This will trigger two additional curses: Lingering Curse and Defile Flesh. If you can, try to backfire them. They are sacrificing spells so it hurts old Craw a lot to get backfired on those.
5. Use Melandru's when your hp starts to get critical.

For Zarnas:
Do not frontal assault! Gale + Stone Daggers and Fast Casting makes this guy deadly.

Instead see if you can get him stuck on a corner such that stone daggers won't hit you. (This is fairly easy to do). Then:
1. Backfire
2. Rinse and Repeat until he's down so low on HP that he won't cast.
3. Shatter Enchantment (only when he's low on HP). He uses Aura of Restoration and when you hit him with it he'll drop.

*NOTE: He must have around 2000hp. I've seen him cast through 105dmg Backfire 8 times and only drop about 40% health.

P.S. I still like my Vilnar's Staff more... it does cold damage.

Ridiculous... I wasted 2 hours.. killed him countless times... no staff... nothing.

On top of that, he even manages to kill me once in every 10 times I kill him.

After the first Grenth's Balance, his HP is too low to use it again. At this point if I heal, he somehow heals too. And kills me. If I dont heal, he usually dies when I am about 20-40hp from death. Usually is the key word here...

EDIT: I finally got the staff. After like 50-60 runs... However, at this point, one has to wonder... Was it worth it?? lol
